How To Restore The Logon Screensaver On Windows 7 & 8.

Windows Vista and previous versions of Windows have a Logon Screensaver. That displays when your computer is idle or you have been logged out after so many minutes.

This is a really nice feature that Microsoft removed from Windows 7 and later versions.

But here is how you can get it back and it works on both Windows 7 and 8.

You need to copy one of the logon screen savers from Windows Vista or an earlier version of Windows.

I have chosen Windows 2000 for mine.

Go to the System 32 folder on Windows XP or Vista.
Or extract from the install CD.

Copy the Logon exe.  This is the screensaver.

Then place it in the C/Windows/System/32 on Windows 7 or Windows 8 or 8.1.

You also need to create the following registry entry.

Open Notepad-

Copy and paste the following:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop]
"ScreenSaveActive"="1"
"ScreenSaveIsSecure"="1"
"ScreenSaveTimeOut"="300"
"Scrnsave.exe"="C:\\WINDOWS\\SYSTEM32\\logon.scr"

Save as a Reg file.
Such as logonscreensaver.reg.

Then run the reg file.

You can edit the timeout to how ever many seconds you want the screensaver to come on.

The log on Screensaver is installed and should work whenever you log off or your computer is not being used for some time. The same as it does on Windows Vista.

Please note this will only work with either a blank screensaver or a logon screensaver from an earlier version of Windows.
Not one of the 3D screensavers.

Logon Screensaver on my Windows 8 which also works on Windows 7.
