Windows NT 3.51 Program Manager On Windows 7 & 8.

Program Manager was every version of Windows from Windows 1x to Windows 2000. Windows 95,98 and Windows ME had the 16 bit version from Windows 3x.  There was also a 32 bit version that was in Windows NT3,Windows NT4 and Windows 2000. But Microsoft disabled Program Manager in Windows XP. It's still in there but it does not run and was removed altogether from Windows Vista onward.

Reinstate The Windows 7 MSConfig On Windows 8.

I recently wrote a post on how to get the MSConfig,System Configuration, on Windows 8. Because the problem with the one on Windows 8 is that you can no longer view or manage your start up programs from there as Microsoft have removed this feature. So it does not work anymore, you now have to go to the Windows 8 Task Manager.

Get The Classic Windows NT 3.51 Control Panel On Windows XP,Vista,7 & 8.

As well as Windows 3x which was a 16 bit operating system, Microsoft also made an NT version which was 32 bit. This was Windows NT3x and the first version was Windows NT 3.1. Then there was Windows NT 3.5, then NT 3.51. All of the Windows NT3's looked exactly like Windows 3.1, except they were 32 bit, did not have DOS. Where as Windows 3x was 16 bit, and was also a DOS operating system that could boot into DOS, and run DOS programs.

Windows 3.11 File Manager On Windows 8.

This also works on Windows 7,Windows Vista and Windows XP as well as on Windows 8.1. But you must be running 32 bit Windows, because this is the 16 bit File Manager that cannot run on 64 bit Windows.

File Manager has been in Windows from Windows 3x and there was also a 32 bit version that was in Windows NT3 and NT4. Both of which were 32 bit Windows and Windows 3x was 16 bit, although it could run 32 bit software.

Get Back The Classic MsConfig On Windows 8.

In my last post I showed you how to get the old Task Manager from Windows NT4 and Windows XP on Windows 8. See this post here.

Today I am going to show you how to get the old MsConfig, which is System Configuration from Previous versions of Windows on 8. And this also works on Windows 8.1.

So you have replaced the Windows 8 Task Manager with that from Windows XP or NT4, but there is one small problem. When you open System Configuration, also called MsConfig,it does not display the start up programs. Because Microsoft have changed this in the Windows 8 MsConfig and you now have to go to the Windows 8 Task Manager to see and manage your start up programs. But the Windows 7,Windows XP and Windows NT4 Task Manager does not have this.

Get Back The Old Task Manager On Windows 8.

This also works on Windows 7.

Microsoft has changed the Task Manager on Windows 8. It is a lot different from what it was in Windows 7 and previous versions of Windows. Many people including myself are not very happy with the new Task Manager that is on Windows 8. I have been having problems with it in that it is very slow to start. And often when I have run a program and it freezes or Explorer freezes or crashes, When I try to bring up Task Manager to end it. It takes ages to come up and by the time it does,it's too late and my system or program has crashed. Then I have to restart my program or whatever I am using again.

Windows 98 Welcome Exe On Windows 8.

I found an interesting post on one of the forums about trying to run the Windows 98 Welcome tour on later versions of Windows. If you have used Windows 98, you will know about the spash screen with the nice music you get every time you log into Windows with the short tour of what's in Windows 98.
This is known as the Welcome exe or Windows 98 Welcome.

Outlook 2003 On Windows 8.

I have installed Outlook Mail 2003 on my Windows 8 and it is working very well. In fact this is the best version I have tried as I found with Outlook 2000 although that did work on Windows XP,Windows Vista and Windows 7. It did not work well on Windows 8. Although I could send webmail on Windows 7 this did not work at all on 8.

How To Get Back The Genuis In Microsoft Office 2003.

This also works in Microsoft Office XP. The operating system I am using here is Windows 8, but this also works on Windows 7,Windows vista and Windows XP.

Windows NT4 3D Text Screensaver Easter Eggs On Windows 8.

There are 3 hidden Easter eggs in the 3D Text screensaver from Windows NT4. And they all work on Windows 8 as well as on Windows XP, Vista and 7. In video I show you what they are.

Microsoft Agent Characters Buttercup,The Genius and Others On Windows 8

Here I show you some interesting Microsoft Agent characters,Buttercup, Becky and The Genius as well as some others running on Deskbot on Windows 8. To install the Genius I just copied the character file from my Microsoft Office 2000 CD into the Microsoft  Agent Chars folder on Windows 8. I have also set Deskbot to run in Program Compatibility Mode for Windows 98/ME to remove the color backgrounds from the characters. See this post here on how to do this.

Microsoft Office 2003 On Windows 8.

I thought I would try Microsoft Office 2003 on Windows 8 seeing that I was able to run MS Office 97 and 2000 on both Windows 8 as well as on Windows Vista,Windows 7 and Windows XP. Office 2003 was made for Windows XP so I hoped it would work on Windows 7 and 8 and it does.

Remove Color Background From Microsoft Agent Characters On Windows Vista, 7 & 8.

There is a bug on Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and 8.1 that does not allow the Microsoft Agent Characters to display correctly when run.
The animated characters Merlin, Rover The Dog and others are the office assistants found in Microsoft Office 2003 and in other applications such as Deskbot and Mash.

Fix To Run Channel Screensaver From Windows 98 On Windows 7.

The Microsoft Active Channel Screensaver (also known as Channel Screensaver) was bundled with Internet Explorer 4 and 5. So was installed in Windows 95,98,Windows 2000 and Windows ME. This screensaver works fine on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 8 and 8.1 but not on Windows 7.
However I have managed to find a fix to get the screensaver to work on Windows 7 and it does. So here is what you need to do.

How To Rename The Network Icon On Windows 7.

This also works on Windows Vista, Windows 8 and 8.1. I am not sure about Windows 10 because I am not using that.

On Windows XP and earlier versions of Windows you can rename the Network Icon which was My Network Places in Windows XP or Network Neighborhood in Windows 98 to any name you wanted.
Microsoft for same reason disabled this feature in Windows Vista and later Windows. But this feature is not removed and there is a way to get it back with a simple registry edit

Enable Windows Calendar To Open In Windows Mail On Windows 7 & 8.

Replace The Default Wallpaper On Windows 7.

This also works on Windows Vista, Windows 8 and 8.1.

Well there is not much you can say about the default wallpaper that everybody sees when they first boot into the desktop on Windows 7.
It's, well, boring and not much to look at.

How To Get Outlook Express To Show In Default Programs List On Windows 7 & 8.

This works on Windows 7,Windows 8 and 8.1.

In my other post I showed you how to install and run Outlook Express the email program from Windows XP on Windows 8 and 8 and 8.1.
But it does not show up in default programs list which is annoying because it's difficult to set it as your default program.
