Reinstate Windows Mail on Windows 8.

Windows Mail is included in Windows Vista but it is removed from Windows 7 and Windows 8. But on Windows 7 it is easy to reinstate Windows Mail simply by deleting the inactive Windows 7 Windows Mail program file and replacing it with the Windows Vista program file.
Windows Mail can be installed on Windows 8. But the dill file needed to run Windows Mail is not included in Windows 8 like it is in Windows 7 and Windows Vista. So in order to get Windows Mail working in Windows 8 you need to copy the Msidcrl30.dill file from Windows 7 or Windows Vista onto Windows 8.Here is how to install Windows Mail on Windows 8.

On Windows 8 go to program folder on C drive or where Windows 8 is installed. You need to delete the Windows 8 Windows Mail program file.Which like the Windows 7 Windows Mail program file is inactive. But the program file is locked by Windows and so it won't let you delete it. So first you need to install
IOrbit Unlocker  which unlocks and deletes any program file. You can also install Take Ownership which lets you take ownership or any file. And then you can delete it, but Unlocker is easier. Delete the Windows 8 Windows Mail program file using Unlocker. On Windows Vista go to Program file and copy and paste the Windows Mail program file to your Desktop or My Documents folder. Then right click with your mouse and select "send to a zipped folder." This creates a zip installer file.

Then transfer the Windows Mail program file from Windows Vista onto Windows 8.You can do this using a USB thumb drive or by using Team Viewer, which lets you transfer files from one computer to another computer.Or if you are duel booting with Windows Vista, you can just copy the Windows Mail program file from Programs in Windows Vista into programs on Windows 8. On Windows 8 unblock the Windows Mail zip file if it is blocked and extract the files to Programs on C drive.

But before you can run Windows Mail you need to copy the dill file Msidcrl30.dill from Windows Vista or Windows 7 onto Windows 8. The Msidcrl30.dill file can be found in Windows/System32 folder on Windows 7 and on Windows Vista.
Then on Windows 8 paste the Msidcrl30.dill file into Windows/system32 folder.

It is important that you paste the Msidcrl30.dill file you have copied from Windows 7 or Windows Vista in Windows/System32 on Windows 8 first, other wise Windows Mail will not run.
Then go to Programs and open the Windows Mail program file you have just installed and send the Win Mail shortcut to your desktop. Rename this shortcut Windows Mail.
Windows Mail is now installed on Windows 8 and will work the same way it does on Windows Vista and Windows 7.

You can also set Windows Mail as the systems default program on Windows 8. To do this download the registry key Win Mail make default. And then open the file and select OK. To enable the splash screen download the registry key Win Mail enable splash screen open the file and select OK.
This sets Windows Mail as the system default email program and enables the splash screen.

Windows Mail is now working on Windows 8 and it is now listed in the default program list in Default Programs. Windows Mail can be run alongside other email programs including Windows Live Mail just like it does on Windows 7.
