Problems with Mediafire.

Have you ever heard of Mediafire? If you are a software developer or if you have files that you want to share with friends you should have.

Mediafire is one of the larger file sharing and storage sites. And anyone can open a free account and upload their files and store them on the site for free. You can choose to make your files public so you can share them with friends. Or on your blog or website.Or private where only you have access.

And I have been using Mediafire for quite some time now. And a lot of my blog posts are about installing Windows XP and Windows Vista software on Windows 7 and Windows 8.

And so I use Mediafire to post links to my installer files that I have made, such as Windows Mail and other software from my computer. So that anybody who does not have Windows XP for example, can download the installer file onto their computer. As you cannot upload zip or exe files to your blog or website. But you can post download links to them.

Also you may want that old version of Aim Messenger for example, that they will no longer make in two months time. So you can download the zip or exe installer file and save it on a file sharing and storage site. And you can make it public or private. So if later on you want that file, you can just log into your account and download it.

But yesterday, when I went onto Mediafire and logged into my account. When I tried to download my files onto my computer, I could not.And this has been going on for over 24 hours now.

I can get onto the site and log into my account, but when I try to download any of my files, I just keep getting redirected to the download page. And I click the download button again and the same thing happens and there is no download. I cannot download anything. The website will not let me do it.

And it is not just me that has this problem. I posted about my problem on both Yahoo Answers and on My Digital Life forums. And other people say they have the same problem as me. And my friends and other people I have spoken to who are in different locations than I am have got the same problem. They too cannot download any of their files from Mediafire.

So I emailed Mediafire, the website, yesterday,Friday 9th June, and they emailed me back. And told me that they had removed a bad file from another user and the IWF(Independant Watch Foundation) had got involved, and the website was disrupted.

But that was yesterday and it is now over 24 hours but still,Mediafire have not fixed the problem. It is still the same I cannot download my files or any other files on Mediafire. And neither can my friends or anyone else. And Mediafire have not bothered to fix, what is clearly a fault on the website.

Also another problem I have been having with Mediafire is that even though I am logged into my account. Most times when I try to download my files I am presented with captcha.

That is letters you have to copy before they will take me to the download page. So I complete the captcha and I am taken to the download page. But then when I click the download button the page redirects back to the download page again and again. And I cannot download anything.

But I don't see why when I am logged into my account on Mediafire,I have to complete captcha to download MY OWN FILES. Why?

But the problem with the captcha, which I never use on my comment forms here on my blogs, because a lot of people find it difficult to read, and it serves no purpose.Has been going on for months on Mediafire. And most times I have been forced to complete captcha on Mediafire before it will let me download my file.

And I have uploaded many of my important files on Mediafire, but now I cannot access them. Because I cannot download them. And I need my files because I am in the process of installing Windows 8 Release Preview. And I want to install my Windows XP and Windows Vista software on Windows 8 RP.

But I have backed up most of my files onto a DVD using Windows Back Up.Which is on Windows 7,Windows Vista and Windows 8. And I have an external DVD drive which I plug into my netbooks.

Any other Windows XP files I will transfer onto Windows 7 using Team Viewer. Which lets you connect to your other computers and transfer most files onto your other computers. And then I will back up the rest of my files.

I have also telephoned my ISP(Internet Service Provider)but they told me that they have not blocked Mediafire or restricted any access to the site. And that they do not block websites. So the problem is to do with the site,Mediafire.

I have now found another file sharing site,Ge,tt at http://ge.tt/
And it is much more user friendly than Mediafire. There are no captchpa, and Ge,tt does not use flash or put adverts on your downloads like Mediafire does. And I am also looking at other file sharing sites, because I still want to share my files with friends and on my website. And a file sharing site is the easiest way to do this.

But I am going to back up every single important file onto a DVD so that this will never happen again.

I think it is bad service and poor customer service of Mediafire not fixing the fault on their website.

And as a result I and other people cannot download their files.I don't want to use Mediafire again after this. And I cannot recommend the website to other people because of the poor service and problems I and other users are having.

I have sent Mediafire another email telling them the problem with the downloads has not been fixed. But they have not responded to my second email.

But there is a saying, never put all of your eggs in one basket.NEVER rely on an online file sharing site to back up your files.

Because they can delete your files any time, and close your account. And then you have got nothing and there is nothing you can do about it. Also the website could close down like Megaupload did.

So back up your files using Windows Back Up onto a DVD, or USB thumb drive or external hard drive. Then you will always have them and no one can remove them or deny you access to them.

Links- I have started a thread on Yahoo Answers and on My Digital Life Forums about my problem with the downloads on Mediafire. And members of both forums have told me they have the same problem.

Images-top,download page on Mediafire keeps redirecting back to download page but I cannot download anything. Then I get presented with captcha as shown in the second image. I complete the captcha, but still Mediafire will not let me download the file.
